Betancourt/Lado released....
posted (May 20, 2010)
It was big news for Orange Walk Police when they caught Jamil "Lado" Betancourt in the San Lorenzo area on Saturday morning. Betancourt was the chief suspect in the murder of Jason Coombs and had been eluding police capture since November.

But after being wanted for 7 months, he was only detained for 48 hours. He was released by City police on Monday without a charge, and left free to go. We've been trying to get comment on it since them but police have gone completely silent on the case.

But our information suggests that police didn't have any evidence to definitively link him to the crime scene and so they released him.

At the time of the murder, police linked him to the car used in the murder which was parked a mile away from the Coombs business compound on Malcom Street in the Port Loyola area. But it seems the physical descriptions gathered from witnesses were not enough. Now, we understand police are doing some trace work on the San Lorenzo home where he was found to see if, indeed as some have been theorized, he was being kept at a safe house by those who contracted him to kill Jason Coombs.
