Police Ready To Charge For Williams Shooting
posted (June 4, 2010)
Police have two men in custody and are preparing to charge them for the attempted murder of Rodwell Williams. According to our police sources, they are known affiliates of the Southside Gangsters and were carrying out a hit. Those sources say investigators have gotten a caution statement from one of the young men who went to carry out the hit. They have also gotten a statement from the person who loaned them the bike that was used to go carry out the hit. What investigators have not been able to find out so far is who contracted them to carry out the hit.

One of the men police have in custody is Ricky Valencia of the Yabra area. He and one other person who is in custody could be formally charged soon pending advice from the DPP's office.

And while the investigation has picked up a charge of momentum with a caution statement naming the shooters, their victim Rodwell Williams is still in critical but stable condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida. There is slightly encouraging news as we have hear from sources close to the Prime Minister that Williams's kidneys seem to be functioning and he has responded to external stimuli. Reports also tell us that another surgery was performed today to repair Williams's small intestine. And while the news appears encouraging, we stress his condition remains critical and his prognosis is very guarded.

Doctors told us that when he arrived at the Belize Health Care Partners Hospital on Monday night his blood pressure and blood oxygen was zero and he had 10 perforations in his intestines. They warned that there is a strong possibility of damage to his major organs.

We'll keep following both his medical condition and the criminal investigation of this story.
