Western Regional Gets A Boost
posted (June 15, 2010)
Normally when the Ministry of Health makes news, they are under a public pressure but tonight they're making news for a good reason. They've teamed up with Belize Natural Energy and Project C.U.R.E to send approximately 800,000 dollars in medical supplies and equipment to Belmopan's Western Regional Hospital. Project C.U.R.E, an international non-profit organization based in Colorado, has been making its rounds, reaching more than 120 countries with donations to healthcare system, and with the help of the Prime Minister's Wife Kim Simplis-Barrow, they were in Belize yesterday to participate in the opening of the new wing at the Western Regional Hospital. We spoke to the Manager, who told us what effect the donation will have.

Pearl Ellis, Western Regional Health Manager
"Today is certainly a milestone for us and again one of the things for us we always say in health in order for us to achieve the mandate in health it is important for us to work in partnership with key organizations and we have been doing that. Project Cure is clearly one of our partners and we have established sound partnership relationship with them and so this partnership will enhance the delivery of services that we offer here and t would only mean that the people will benefit more from what we offer here."

Project C.U.R.E plans to donate estimated 9 million dollars in supplies and equipment throughout the country.
