Murder Most Foul

A 22 year old resident of the Corozal district has been convicted of murder. It happened yesterday in Orange Walk Supreme Court. When Arturo Eck was found guilty of strangling and sodomizing 49 year old Eugenio Tzul with an antenna. The killing happened in November of 2007 in San Joaquin Village. Tzul was found dead lying in the street about 3 yards from his brother's house at 5:30 am on November 18th. He had been sodomized with an antenna and a piece of wire was tied around his neck. His skull was also fractured.

Eck gave police a caution statement in which he admitted that he and another man beat and strangled Tzul. Eck - who was 19 at the time - said that prior to the killing, Tzul had made sexual advances on him and took advantage of him when he was drunk. According to the statement Eck got his revenge on the night of November 17th., shortly after, Tzul met him at a bar and asked him for a beer. In the statement, he said that he and another man, followed Tzul, and beat and strangled him. The incriminating caution statement was entered into evidence, In a statement from the dock, Eck told the court he was forced to sign the caution statement.

Eck was represented by Hubert Elringotn while Cecil Ramirez represented the prosecution.

The jury deliberated for about three and a half hours before it arrived at a verdict. Trial Judge, Justice Michelle Arana has deferred sentencing until June 30th.
