Hon. Pech Says Contraband Wasn't for His Sister
posted (June 17, 2010)
Last night on this newscast you saw UDP Orange Walk South Area Representative weigh in on the prickly issue of the embattled principal of the village's Roman Catholic School.

But Pech had his own prickly personal issue to deal with. On Sunday, his sister, Angelica Jimenez who is a teacher at the village school was caught in a home over-run with contraband. She was initially implicated but the homeowner Dana Sanchez - who is a wholesaler of contraband - took ownership of the items, eventually making a guilty plea.

Still, it was good grist for the political mill in Orange Walk that the minister's sister had been caught - if not with contraband - at the home of a contrabandista, and a wholesaler at that. Yesterday, Pech told us that to the best of his knowledge his sister was buying contraband soft drinks for yesterday's graduation at the school:..

Mark Pech, UDP O.W. South Area Rep.
"She is a teacher and she was here at Guinea Grass. She went to pick the drinks I think that they will use in a while. That's what happen. She bought the things right here in Guinea Grass."

Alberto Vellos, CTV3 News
"Police say it's contraband goods."

Mark Pech
"I am not sure. They would use those same drinks right here now."

We note that both the Principal, Evaristo Blanco and the School Manager, Armando Valdez flatly denied commissioning the minister's sister who is a teacher to buy anything for the graduation. They told us they were not involved in that. Be that as it may, our news team attended the graduation as part of the story, and we can confirm that the cola being served at the reception sure tasted like contraband. Who sourced it, or where it came from..we can't say.

What we do know is that the wholesaler who pleaded guilty was loaded. Her name is Dana Sanchez and she was BUSTED WITH TWO SACKS OF 44 KILO BOLA ROJA FLOUR, 5 SACKS OF 10 KILO FLOUR, 1 SACK OF SUPER EXTRA ARROZ 25 KILO, 4 SACKS OF 10 KILO RICE, 27 BOTTLES BIG COLA, 9 BOTTLES OF MANZANA, 2 CASES OF TOMATOES and for good measure, 2 BOTTLES OF SOL. That's quite a load and true to form, when she was arraigned yesterday, in response to the question about what her occupation was, Sanchez told the court quite frankly that she was a contrabandista. The magistrate urged her not to implicate herself like that, but Sanchez had a hard time coming up with any other occupation. She pleaded guilty to knowingly HARBOURING UNCUSTOMED GOODS and was fined three times the value of the goods to be paid in six months.
