posted (June 18, 2010)
And the panorama of violence wasn't complete even with those three shootings - today there was another shootout.

No one was fatally injured but the gunmen definitely intended to kill. What is newsworthy about this one is that it happened near a busy intersection at the height of the Friday afternoon rush. Here's more:....

Monica Bodden, Reporting Members of B-SAG - the Belize Special Assignment Group marched down Banak Street early this afternoon after another broad daylight shooting - this one at of the busiest intersections in the city - the western highway roundabout. Everyone was too afraid to speak on camera but the target was sitting here at this food stall where he had just bought food when two men rode up from behind on these bicycles, snuck up from behind this dump truck, and opened fire.

They shot the customer who was sitting down in a chair - they also shot up the vendors wares spilling food all over the place. The victim was hit in the shoulder and he bolted towards the western highway while the gunmen dashed back down Banak Street.

Personnel from a passing police mobile set chase and one of the gunmen fired at police. Police fired back but he escaped into the network of alleys in the area police and BDF have swarmed the area between Banak and Mayflower street - but the residents know that in a time of heightened gang warfare, no where's safe.

The victim has been identified to us as Emmerson Gill. He was reportedly shot in his shoulder area. Police could not confirm his condition.
