The earthquake recovery effort continues in Haiti and now they'll have Belizean help. Today a team of soldiers from the Belize Defense Force Light Engineer Company was deployed to Haiti to participate in a New Horizon Mission as a part of a Task Force. They will be working jointly with the Louisiana Army National Guard on the mission and will be providing a platoon of thirty light engineers for three rotations of one month duration. The mission of the task force is to provide military support to the civil authorities in Haiti, provide medical assistance and to conduct general engineering projects such as the reconstruction of schools and clinics in the vicinity of Gonaives Haiti. The team will be working in Haiti until September. The initiative is coordinated by the Government of Belize and the U.S Southern Command.
