Parents Denied Report Card For Future Debt
posted (June 24, 2010)
And while it's the teachers who were complaining at Ladyville Evangelical, at all Saints in Belize City, the parents were the ones with complaints. That's because report cards were reportedly being with-held form parents who haven't paid for the coming school year. We all know report cards are routinely withheld when fees for the current school year haven't been paid, but future fees? That seemed a little out of the norm. But one parent who asked to appear off camera told us that is just what she experienced.

Voice of Parent
"Yesterday we came for report card and on reaching the classroom the teacher informed us that if we don't pay for next year we are not going to receive our child's report card. Before you receive your report card you are to show them you receipt that you paid for the coming year. Some of the parents went home yesterday with tears in their eyes because some of them have children graduating form All Saints, some of them have graduation from high school, they can't afford it. Until September maybe they can pay it. The point is that they are not giving you your report card that you already paid for."

The vice-principal told us only the principal could comment on it and she wasn't around. We were unable to reach the school management. According to a representative from the Ministry of Education. the education act strictly only allows schools to withhold report cards for nonpayment of outstanding fees.
