Patty’s Prologue
posted (June 24, 2010)
And while the old and new ownership of BTL hold those battles on high, today on the ground, one food vendor was crying foul. Remember 6 weeks ago on May 19th we told you about Patty's Food? It's the stall in the compound of the government offices on North Front Street. On May 19th, the ministry of education gave her a notice that she would have to be moved in a month. Patty told us she would fight it but without any paper permission to occupy the space in the corner of the parking lot she didn't have much to go on. But it seems they have reached a compromise, of sorts. The stall won't be torn down, it will be re-located. And so today they started to dismantle the stall, nicely. And while Patty has gone to the states her husband told us that he's asked them to move the stall to Ladyville.

Simeon Madrill, Owner
"I don't know what is going on, only they could really tell you what is going on right now. They said that want here for parking lot, that is what they say. Yesterday I was sick, today I am sick, the boys call me and told me that they were breaking down my shop. Nobody inform me and tell that they were going to break down the shop, if those boys haven't called me and tell me the shop is being broken down I wouldn't have known anything."

Monica Bodden
"So they called you and they tell you that your shop was being broken down. You had no idea?"

Simeon Madrill
"I had no idea. Those boys who work in here call me."

Monica Bodden
"Now when you came what did you notice? What is missing from the shop?"

Simeon Madrill
"Well this whole part that people eat under is not there."

Monica Bodden
"Without no one informing you?"

Simeon Madrill
"No one informed me, they just came and did what they want to do."

Monica Bodden
"Now when you came here, who did you speak to?"

Simeon Madrill
"Nobody, all of them walk away when I came. The fat boy that was here I ask him how they are breaking down the shop without notifying me. He said that his boss send him to break it down."

Monica Bodden
"Now Mr. Simeon, where do you plan to take this shop?"

Simeon Madrill
"Well I have to take it home to Ladyville because only there I can take it, I don't have anywhere else to put it. I have to find something else to do. This shop is what I use to maintain my kids with, I have children in school, I don't have any job this is what I use to survive from."

Monica Bodden
"How long have you been on this premises?"

Simeon Madrill
"Over ten years my wife and I are here."

The move should be completed by the weekend.
