Celebrate Through Music
posted (June 24, 2010)
It's summertime, which means it's time for preparations to start for our annual September celebrations. Two song competitions are taking place, and we spoke to one of the coordinators to find out how you can be a part of it.

Jackie Castillo, Competition Coordinator
"Well, this year the National Celebration Commission in association with Atlantic International Bank is having the National song competition 2010. It's a part of the September celebration but we kind of started it early to kick-start all of the activities that we do for September celebrations. The competition is in two parts, we have the carnival song competition and the patriotic song competition. The most important part of the patriotic song competition is lyrical content showing love and devotion for Belize whereas the carnival song, we want to capture their traditional culture of carnival and that party feeling."

"How can people enter the competition?"

Jackie Castillo
"We have registration forms available at the Bliss Center. They can ask for me, Jackie, I can give you more information. You can also access the September celebrations website, and you'd be able to download the application from the website. For those people who are in different districts and would still like to sign up, they can get the form from the website, fill it out, send it in, and you can enter the competition. I'm hoping to find new talent. Belize i\s filled with so many talented musicians, so I encourage you."

First Prize for both competitions is $3000 dollars along with a trophy for the senior categories, and $1000 dollars and a trophy for the junior categories. Applications are available at the Bliss, House of Culture, and the BTB. Deadline is July 8th.
