Ride Across Raised Much Money Per Mile
posted (June 25, 2010)
The Ride Across Belize - we followed it at the end of may as it trekked from Corozal to the City, to Cayo, to Dangriga to Punta Gorda..... The ride was in support of healthy living generally and specifically, to fundraise for the rotary's gift of life programme.

After all those miles, all those hours off from work, all those energy gels consumed, was it all worth it? We found out today as they handed over funds that were raised during the 7th annual Ride as the social security conference room in the city:.....

Merlene Bailey-Martinez, CEO - Social Security Board
"I do want to draw attention which I am sure Mrs. Burke will do to the Gift Of Life program. The idea is to really lend support to this program. When you invest in your children, it's always a good investment, its always an excellent investment it prioritizes where we are as a country so we are very happy to partner with something like that and certainly it has been our pleasure."

Nabi Reyes, Finance Dept. - SSB
"So today we are handing over a total of $66,383.81 and to end with a quote from our CEO I am sure that this is the cheque she will sign with the most pleasurable this year."

Yvette Burke, Gift Of Life Program/Rotary
"We are so proud to be a part of this movement. We are so happy and worked as a group to play a part in creating a healthier nation and we are absolutely tickled-pink that Social Security has given us the support that we have received over the last year, Thank you so much and on behalf of all the Belizeans that we serve I thank you."

Yvette Burke
"We of course have been for many years running clinics twice a year at significant cost to diagnose and prioritize children with congenital heart defects and other cardiac conditions and we sponsor the trips out for them to go away to where ever they are going away to fix their heart conditions so it's quite expensive and every year it gets more expensive, of course, and we depend heavily on the generosity of sponsors."

The Gift of Life program, which aims to help children with heart conditions access specialized treatment, will be staging checkups at the KHMH and the Southern Regional Hospital on the 17th and 18th of August, for free.
