Normally at this time of year the Belize council for the visually impaired would be preparing for its summer camps. But this year, they've been hit by the recession and they simply don't have funds to put the camps together. And if they don't that would be a real shame because the camps have been an annual event for over a decade. Public relations for BCVI Carla Ayres Musa told us how you can help:

"Right now we are having a problem with our fundraising. Everything in our rehab is fully sponsored by donations or in-kind donations or cash and this year we are having a real problem raising both in kind donations and cash donations so we are hoping that we can get some support."

"We have approximately 24 children coming to the camp with their parents assisting them for the two weeks summer camp and if we don't have this summer camp it will be devastating for these children. These children look forward for the summer camp each year."

"It is important for the community to fund this program so the children could get that mainstream in class. For example, with the summer camp that we are asking for is the funding which will also help in purchasing new braille machines slate and stylus so that they can use throughout the year."
