Barefoot Burglar in Court

Forty-five year old Clinton Martin of 35 Cleghorn Street who appeared in court today barefooted pleaded guilty to theft and was spared a custodial sentence despite his previous burglary conviction. Instead of sending him to prison, he was fined 750 dollars and given until September 15th to pay. If he cannot make the payment, he will go to jail for 6 months. The theft occurred around 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 11th. Andy Martinez, a security guard at Caye Caulker Water Taxi Association, located on North Front Street, reported to the police that he received information of a man removing cement blocks from the side of the yard. He checked and found Martin with 2 cement blocks, and proceeded to apprehend him. The police contacted the owner of the water taxi, David Phillips, who upon checking found out that 6 blocks were missing. As a result, Martin was charged.
