Fort Point Under Surveillance
posted (July 21, 2010)
On this newscast we've reported on a number of tourist jackings in the Fort Point area, commonly referred to Baron Bliss Grave. In a recent case jackers allegedly pulled up on a boat to rob tourists who were walking in the area! But when we visited the area recently, we saw a security officer patrolling the area on a motorcycle and a few cameras hitched on buildings and lamp-posts.

It is an effort by a company called Maritime Security - where the entire area is monitored from an operation center from which they are able to conduct constant visual inspection around the Fort George Area. We found out more when we visited today:....

Raphael Martinez, Operations Manager
"We have state of the art technology CCTV infrared cameras 24/7 monitoring a specific sector or a specific zone. We have a monitoring center, somebody there who actually watches a screen in 24/7 shifts to ensure that they look at every possible thing that is happening in that sector. we have over lapping cameras covering exits and entrances, we have a motorized guard who actually patrols that sector as well, we do have panic alarm system that each client has in his/her business establishment or home and this client could actually press that panic alarm and within 3 minutes our motorized patrol guard will be arriving in that location to monitor what is going on there. The last time a young guy came; he was just around that corner there, he grabs a woman purse and ran away with. Right away our motorized guy stop him apprehended him, hand cuff him and when that was happening the lady at the monitoring center call the police, within 5 minutes the police were here and the guy was carted off to jail. So that is how effected the system works. About 2005 the Maritime Security Company came about to just securing Euro Caribe assets, however with the increase in crime and criminal activities we decided necessary to have a security strategy and hence we came up with the security and the technology."

"And you find it very effective?"

Raphael Martinez
"It is very effective. As a matter of fact we are trying to sell this idea to security companies themselves can actually buy into this and give us a call so we can work something out. But I think it's very effective and I am sure that persons who are recipients of this service can actually tell you more about it."

Monica Bodden
"So far its only this area right?"

Raphael Martinez
"So far its only in the Fort George area, in this area right here."

Monica Bodden
"But you guys plan to expand."

Raphael Martinez
"We plan to expand it as, say we want to go to Bella Vista, Buttonwood Bay and of course to King's Park, We are working in that area at this point and they should be seeing us a little more in that area."

According to Martinez, their staff is fully trained to high standards and is acquired only from ex military personnel.
