Help For Farah
posted (July 22, 2010)
Recently we've been reporting on the plight of Farah Jones - the 29 year old mother of four with kidney failure. Recently she has been in continued need of blood to enable her to get dialysis.

Now, members of her graduating class at Wesley College are coming to her rescue. They have organized a blood drive to gather blood for Farah. They told us how you can contribute.

"Who came up with the idea of having the blood drive for Farah and why?"

Cherese Ferguson, Blood Drive Organizer
"It was a group of us from the graduating class of 1998, we met and felt that since she one of our past classmate that we can do something to assist her. As a small community we came up with the idea and have reached out to some of our other classmates, and they too are on board."

Emaun Hyde
"Why do you think people should come out and give blood?"

Zaira Estrada, Blood Drive Organizer
"Well, like we said, I think this is a small way you can make a contribution. There are a lot of people w o might not have donated blood before, and actually a small group of people who are frequent blood donors. We're asking people to consider it as just giving back to society in a small way."

Cherese Ferguson
"Although we're doing this specifically for her and accepting a negative blood type, which is hers, we are accepting all blood types to increase the supply at the blood bank which can be of assistance to other individuals who need blood as well."

Emaun Hyde
"Can you tell me why you think it's necessary for us as Belizean to come together as a community to help individuals such as Farah."

Cherese Ferguson
"Well we all have our good days and we have bad days and if each one helps one. So if we come together and help Farah or there are other individuals who is in need then it's important for us to come together because we never know when we ourselves may be in need of assistance."

The blood drive is set for next Saturday July 31st at WIN Belize on Dean Street from 8 am to 4 pm. They are accepting all blood types, but donors must be 18 and over, and healthy.
