Another Alley Fire; This time It’s Arson For Sure
posted (August 24, 2010)
Yesterday the news was about a fire in Petticoat Alley, and tonight it's about an early morning fire in an alley off Regent Street which gutted a two storey house. It happened around 4:30 this morning at number 30A Regent Street and the story is that this one has a very clear indication of arson.

Edward Robinson - who occupies the upper floor - was the only one inside the house. He managed to escape the blaze unscathed but he lost everything. Today Kenneth Mortis Training Officer at the Fire Department told Seven News this was clearly a case of Arson.

Kenneth Mortis, Training Officer - Fire Department
"We received the call here around 4 this morning. We arrived and within 20 minutes we brought the fire under control after which we continued to totally extinguish the blaze. The occupant managed to escape the blaze by the shouts of neighbors alerting him of the building being on fire. So far after extinguishing the blaze we have learnt that the fire apparently started probably due to a malicious act meaning that the previous tenant had some kind of misunderstanding with the current tenant and thereby threats were issued to the current tenant pertaining to the house being burnt down. We were also lucky to find what appears to have been the remains of some accelerant which we believe to have started the blaze. So the fellow we have been made to understand is being currently detained by police pending the investigation."

"The entire house was totaled?"

Kenneth Mortis, Training Officer - Fire Department
"Yes the entire 2 storey structure of wood and cement which was approximately 30 by 40 were gutted by the flames and totally destroyed. The building was insured with Regent Insurance for some $35,000.00."

Kareem Flowers is detained for this morning's fire. From what we understand, Flowers was an occupant of the lower flat of the house but he was evicted on August 6th. Since then he had been making threats to Robinson to burn down the house.
