CSEC Prelim. Results Encouraging

Preliminary results are in for the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) - formerly known as the CXC - exams and - on the whole - they are encouraging.

The ministry of education reports that Eighty-two percent of the subjects sat received Grades I - III, which are satisfactory and above average grades - that's a four percent increase over last year.

The sharpest increase was recorded in Information Technology in which satisfactory or above grades increased from 15.4 percent in 2009 to 90.9 percent in 2010.

English also showed notable improvement, while in Building Technology with 98.6 percent of entries received grades I-III, compared to 72 percent in 2009.

Overall, performance improved in 18 of 31 subjects.

And while the results are encouraging, they are only preliminary results and a query period will follow before they are finalized.
