Another Fire; Family Claims Arson
posted (August 30, 2010)
In just over a week, fires have destroyed three homes in Belize City. The latest fire on early Saturday morning left Robert Tracey, a labourer of Belize City homeless. Our intern, Andrea Polanco found out that again in this case the home did not have electricity:....

When the fire department got to the scene, they found only the burnt remains of Robert Tracey's home. Director of Training at the Fire Department, Kenneth Mortis told Seven News that they weren't able to get any useful information from the owner who was drunk at the time.

Kenneth Mortis-Training Officer (Fire Department)
"On arrival we found the remains of what was a wooden structure that was burning prior to the department receiving the call. The information gathered was very limited partially next to nil. The main reason for this is because the sole occupant of the house or the structure even though he wasn't in the structure at the time the fire was burning he was heavily intoxicated. We made an attempt to speak there and then but he was of no use to us he couldn't give us anything, we made several attempts to find him to gather information and as of to present we still have not located this fellow even he gave us an address where he could be found at. We just have nothing to report."

Tracey reportedly left his home around 2:30 that morning to visit a neighbour and, twenty five minutes later, saw his house on fire.

While the house didn't have any electricity Kenneth Mortis tells us that the fire could've been caused by a number of things but their investigations are on hold until they can locate Tracey.

While investigations haven't pointed at arson, Seven News spoke with the son of the owner of the house and he believes that the house was set on fire.

The house wasn't insured and the value of the contents was unknown.
