4 Year Old Girl Knocked Down & Killed
posted (September 3, 2010)
As we told you at the top of the newscast, a four year old girl was run over in the city today. It happened on North Front Street as she was crossing north front street - unaccompanied - after she slipped away from her father in a nearby yard. That's when an oncoming vehicle ran over her. The driver stopped and rendered assistance but before reaching the hospital the child succumbed to her injuries.

It is truly a tragedy and Monica Bodden has the story:…

Monica Bodden, Reporting
The bloodstain on the street side marks the spot where Four year old Elisha Gilharry was knock down and killed. It happened in front of Cundy's Barber shop on North Front Street a little after 2 this afternoon. Little Elisha was crossing the street when a Land Cruiser Driven by 32 year old Lyle Harris ran over her. Her tiny body was dragged by the vehicle a couple yards away from where she was standing.

Her father Joseph Gilharry witnessed the entire tragedy. His body was still covered in his baby's blood when we spoke to him.

Joseph Gilharry, Father
"I sit down there me and my little daughter. We sat down and were just chilling out, she got up and was on the side of the street when a pickup came and the driver had his head down in his vehicle, he didn't even know that he knocked down my daughter."

Monica Bodden
"Your baby was about to cross the street?"

Joseph Gilharry, Father "She was trying to cross the street. But the driver didn't know that he knocked down the little girl, she ended up down the street."

Monica Bodden
"What did you have to do? You had to run out and.....?"

Joseph Gilharry, Father
"I run out and after him. He ran over the little girl like a dog, he didn't know he knock down the little girl."

4 year old Elisha died before reaching the hospital.

Joseph Gilharry, Father
"When I pick her up all I see was blood coming from out of her mouth on her way to the hospital. She took her last breath. It hurt me. This is my baby."

Monica Bodden
"Was he speeding or something?"

Joseph Gilharry, Father
"He was driving but he wasn't paying attention to where he was going, he had his head down in the vehicle. When I told him what he did he told me that I am suppose to know where my child is and that I am not paying attention to my child. The front wheel ran over her, her head was burst open; all you can see is the big hole."

Monica Bodden
"Right now I see that you are bloody, your tennis is full of blood."

Joseph Gilharry, Father
"Everything is bloody, I had to go to change my shirt. I really feel bad and upset. I can't even talk to you right now because I feel it inside of me. She was my baby, my angel."

Gilharry - who is a single parent - had to be consoled and he held on to his baby's picture and his shirt that was soaked in blood.

Joseph Gilharry, Father
"I miss my baby, she is my daughter. He kill my daughter now; she went just like that now. What can I do?"

Monica Bodden
"Was she going to school?"

Joseph Gilharry, Father
"I just try my best yesterday to put her in school. I make sure that she went to school yesterday afternoon and this morning, she came out this afternoon and look what happen now. I took her home to change her clothes; she was in her tights and under shirt and that is what she died in."

Monica Bodden
"What school was she going?"

Joseph Gilharry, Father
"Central Assembly."

Monica Bodden
"She just came from school?"

Joseph Gilharry, Father
"She just came from school and was relaxing with me. I told the driver that he know down my child and he said that he didn't knock down anyone."

Monica Bodden
"Your baby died on the spot?"

Joseph Gilharry, Father
"Right there where you see the blood on the street because the vehicle drag her and ran over her completely."

The four year old had just started school at Central Assembly on Wednesday.
