Chinese Robbed

Twenty-three year old Shelton Moguel Jr, one of the two persons who the police believe robbed 31 year old Chinese businessman Wei Dong Lai, was charged with robbery and wounding when he appeared today in the # 8 Magistrate's Court.

Moguel pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Emmerson Banner explained to Moguel that the court cannot offer him bail because the offences were committed with a firearm.

He remanded Moguel into custody until November 1.

The incident occurred around 12:50 a.m on Friday, September 3. Lai, who resides at 8224 Mahogany Street, reported to the police that he got out of his car opened the gate of his residence and drove the car in. Lai said he got out of the car to close the gate and while he was walking to the gate two persons rode up on a bicycle and entered the yard.

Lai said one of the men pointed a firearm at him and told him not to move. Lai said he did what was told and the men stole his Motorola cell phone, six hundred and forty dollars, a pack of Benson and Hedges cigarette and his cigarette lighter. Lai told police the gunman then asked him for his gun and when he couldn't produce I, the gunman pistol whipped him to the left side of his head and caused a wound.

The following day Moguel was detained by the police. The police reported that he was positively identified as one of the culprits in an identification parade.
