Carnival bad mind…
posted (September 6, 2010)
And while the Carnival King and Queen was declared on Friday night - seems some bad mindedness was still brewing in the event's aftermath. And that's what may have caused somebody to vandalize king and queen costumes belonging to Jam Jam's carnival band. When Seven News got to their camp this morning -both their Queen Costumes and King were totally destroyed.

"Well this happen about after 3 this morning because our camp was open until 2 O' clock and then everyone left and about 3:30 I heard the dogs barking and then when I look out I didn't see anything suspicious because the costumes were under a tent. Then about 6:00 my sister came to work and she told my husband that someone destroyed the costumes and then I came across and I saw it and I was totally shock. This is the first time something like this has happened."

"Now tell me what they do with the costumes."

"The slash the costumes and for the pink one that Stacy Hemmanns came in 2nd with they try to light it on fire. All the costumes they slash and took off feathers, they break the feathers in half so we can't even try to use then again. They tore the cloth and bend the steel, they did their best, that's what I can say; they did their best. This was a total shock and its very heart breaking because my kings and my queens especially Stacy Hemmans; it was money from her pocket that paid; money from Tyron Scott pocket that paid; Vanessa Wagner, they paid from their pockets."

The total cost for the 3 damaged customs is a little over 4 thousand dollars. It took the band almost 3 months to get them ready for Carnival. But that is not breaking Jam Jam's carnival spirit - they say they have 4 more days to work with - they only need your help. These revelers will be having a Money Drive on Albert Street tomorrow as a fund raising initiative to help buy materials to redo their customs. Also on Friday they will be having a barbeque sale in the Pickstock area.
