A Sendoff For Santos

President of the University of Belize, Dr. Santos Mahung has been in the crosshairs of his board of directors from the end of January when the chairman wrote to the Prime Minister outlining reasons for his dismissal.

Nine months later, the announcement went out from the University of Belize this evening that the office of the Prime Minister announces a mutually agreed and voluntary termination of the original agreement with Dr. Santos Mahung as President of the University of Belize with effect on October first.

Making the best of a bad situation, the press release states that the government and the board recognize Dr. Mahung's contribution to educational development in Belize and acknowledge the services rendered by the president to the University of Belize since 2007.

The release also announces that Prime Minister Dean Barrow intends to advise his Excellency - the Governor General, that Dr. Corinth Lewis be appointed to act as President of the University of Belize until a substantive appointment can be made.

Morter - Lewis previously held the job until 2007..
