Scotiabank Donates
posted (September 30, 2010)
This morning the two branches of Scotia Bank in Belize City each donated a brand new computer to a couple of the city's needy schools.

It's not exactly Bill Gates getting out his checkbook, but for Belize's most profitable bank, it's a part of an initiative they plan to take countrywide -and today it all started with 2 City schools. The principals of St. Luke's Methodist School and Central Assembly of God both stopped in the bank to pick up their donation and 7 News was there.

Jose Chan, Branch Manager
"We always at Scotia Bank believe that we have an obligation to the public and from newspaper ads you can see that and today we want to start off by donating 2 computers to different primary schools in Belize City. we are doing this countrywide. We have other districts that we are also will be donating these computers. This is only our share in assisting our students at different primary schools, I know its a bit difficult to donate to all schools. But we are trying to do it one at a time. For example about 2 months ago we had our computers at our branch that were being replace and those were still in good shape so we donated about 7 more computers to a different primary school. These ones are brand new computers and this is what we are doing to try and assist schools. I know there is a high demand for students to have access to internet, so that's what we are doing."

"You care to tell me how the 2 schools were chosen?"

Jose Chan, Branch Manager
"Well you know like I said its difficult to say which one we are going to choose because we have a lot of schools in Belize District. we chose this one because of the proximity of the branch, the need because we spoke to different principals and the central assemble of god had already have a project going on at their school whereby they have about 6 computers and this one would definitely enhance their program. That's with basically what we did."
