Pay-mistress’ Car Torched
posted (October 7, 2010)
On Monday on this newscast, we spoke to city council pay mistress Shirlene Sabal. She was under some pressure after a public dispute with a credit agency. She was publicly accused of "hustling" by the owner of that agency and Sabal ably defended herself, flatly denying those allegations.

That testimony should have been the end of this clerk's brief foray into public life…but tonight she is back in the news, and for no good reason. No, she didn't do anything wrong, the 43 year old mother is the victim tonight - of arson. In the pre-dawn hours while she slept someone torched her car, a 1996 Toyota Corrola - which is parked right next to her family home.

She told us what happened and why she is terrified.

Shirlene Sabal, victim
"About 3:50 this morning I heard the car horn blowing so I peeped through the window and saw smoke coming out of my car so I hollered for my children to get up. Everybody ran downstairs and saw the car was on fire. My common law husband saw a bottle with gasoline so he throw it away and we start to try to put out the fire. We call the fire department; we start to out the fire with buckets of water. Apparently one of the gypsy windows had on duct tape so they put the cloth with the bottle of gasoline in the vehicle because we found the cloth in the vehicle. I am concern because I want to know what next level will they go to. I just want it to stop, honestly. I don't know what to do next."

"Are you living in fear?"

Shirlene Sabal, victim
"I am, not for only me but my children too. and you could never know what next the person is thinking because I didn't know I have an enemy out there who think so low and steep. So what next level they will go to?"

Police say a plastic bottle containing kerosene was recovered at the scene. No suspects have been detained. The car was insured.

Financial controller Patrick Tillett told us that Sabal did receive threatening text messages during the recent dispute.
