posted (October 15, 2010)
52 year old Trevor Lofter, a construction worker of Ladyville was knocked down and killed last night. It happened around 10:15 between miles 11 and 12 on the Northern highway. He was riding his bicycle northbound, heading towards Sandhill when he was hit by a black Geo Prism driven by Christopher Tillett. Lofter died just minutes later. Today his family told us what they saw when they went on the scene last night.

Deidra Pratt, Daughter
"It was a gruesome scene actually he had his leg amputated he was lying about 5 feet away from the street side. His leg has been cut off from the accident, his arm was broken in so many different places, he had some of his side missing and it look like he was a strong fighter because he had a piece of branch in his hand still trying to fight, trying to call for help and eventually a couple of minutes after we reach the scene he died. He had a massive blood loss on the ground and they have they guy in custody. He said he was going 50 miles per hour, but I don't think so because of the way the vehicle look, he was going more than 50 miles per hour."

"He was hit from behind?"

Deidra Pratt, Daughter
"Yes he was hit from behind because he was going north. The guy says he was going to Burrell Boom and my stepfather was going the same direction. He gave the statement to the police that he was driving 50 miles per hour going towards Boom and on the way there he hit something, he know he hit something and he came out of the car and he look and didn't see anything. I guess he was terrified to see or maybe he saw the condition my stepfather was in and he panic and didn't help him. He said he proceeded to the police station then the police went on the scene and that's what they saw."

Lofter was the father of seven children. Today in court, Twenty-two year old Christopher Tillett, a customer service agent for Tropic Air at Phillip Goldson International Airport was charged with manslaughter by negligence.

Tillett was also charged with causing death by careless conduct and driving without due care and attention.

No plea was taken because the offences are indictable. Magistrate Albert Hoare offered bail of five thousand dollars, which he met. He adjourned Tillett's case until November 16.
