Power Gradually Being Restored, Schools Slowly Re-open

And after the storm - those who don't have to worry about a roof over their heads or putting food on the table, have been wondering when will they get back power and when will school resume?

First, here's the status on the power.

Nationally, BEL has restored power to a 83% of customers affected by the storm. In the Southern zone, mainly Dangriga town that means 75% of customers. Power has also been restored to most of the western zone - 91% of which has power.

The Central zone - which was hardest hit - is lagging behind those areas; power has been restored to 70% of customers. And now, about school:

On Wednesday classes will reopen for some schools in the Belize district - while others have to be delayed until Thursday, Friday and Monday due to storm damage.

The Ministry of education also sent out a press release announcing the resumption of classes. The list goes as follows. On Wednesday classes will reopen for students of –

  • San Pedro & Caye Caulker Schools
  • Pancotto Methodist-Sandhill
  • Biscayne Govt
  • Our lady of Guadalupe-Sandhill
  • All schools in Burrell Boom and the River Valley
  • Unity Presbyterian
  • Central Christian
  • All Saints
  • Hattieville SDA
  • Pilgrim Fellowship-H/Ville
  • Anglican Cathedral College
  • Belize Rural High School
  • Canaan SDA
  • Edward P. Yorke
  • King's College
  • Ladyville Tech
  • All schools in the Old Northen H/way
  • Belize Elementary School
  • Bernice Yorke
  • Hummingbird
  • Stella Maris
  • UB at all campuses
  • On Thursday classes will resume for –
  • Bethel Primary
  • Wesley Lower and Upper
  • Hattieville Govt
  • Our lady of the Way-Ladyville
  • St. Agnes -Democracia/Mahogany Heights
  • St. Joseph
  • St. Martin
  • Ebenezer Methodist
  • James Garbutt SDA
  • Gwen Liz
  • Muslim Community
  • Excelsior
  • St. John Vianney
