Progress With Power Restoration
posted (October 27, 2010)
And tonight, 72 hours after the storm made landfall many areas across the Belize district are still under a blackout - what's worse some communities do not have running water - and we don't have to tell you how crazy it can get being without water for 3 days straight!

Numbers released by BEL late this evening state that approximately 52,800 customers lost power following Hurricane Richard, and as of this evening, power has been restored to over 95% of them, leaving approximately 2,600 customers without electricity.

The communities that are still without full power at this time are Lords Bank Village - where power has been restored to some areas and the rest should get it by 11:30 tonight. Along the Western Highway from Bainsville to Mile 25 won't get power until tomorrow afternoon while the area from Franks Eddy to La Democracia, including Mahogany Heights should be restored by 11:30 tonight.

In Freetown Sibun and Gracie Rock, works have been delayed by flooding. In the Belize River Valley from Scotland Halfmoon to Rancho Dolores and Lemonal, power has been restored to most homes, while a few customers won't get power until midnight tomorrow.

Along the Hummingbird Highway from Alta Vista to St. Margaret's, power has been restored to all areas, except for Middlesex, St. Margaret's and Hummingbird Community. Power will be restored to those areas by 11:30 tomorrow night. And Mullins River should gets its power restored by midnight tomorrow.

One corporate citizen, Bowen and Bowen Limited came up for Mahogany Heights when reports surfaced that folks were gathering water out of drains - and deployed a five thousand gallon container of water and five thousand pouches of water this afternoon.

And now to school…for some it started today and for others still recovering from major storm damage, there will be no school until Thursday Friday or Monday.
