Ted Armstrong Sentenced
posted (October 29, 2010)
Thirty-four year old Ted Armstrong waited over four years in prison to be sentenced to twelve more years in jail. Armstrong, who was found not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter in the fatal stabbing of Jerome "Jazzie" Longsworth, was sentenced to twelve years today by Justice Herbert Lord.

The sentence, stipulated Justice Lord, should take effect from October 20, when he was convicted.

Before he decided on the sentence, Justice Lord heard pleas for mitigation from Armstrong, his attorney, Darrell Bradley and one character witness, Kenrick Burns, the chaplain at Kolbe Foundation Belize Central Prison. Armstrong said he was sorry for what he did and he didn't mean to kill Longsworth.

The incident occurred on July 14, 2006, in Hattieville. Ted Armstrong and his sister Rosita Armstrong had an argument and altercation at their home and Longsworth intervened. Ted Armstrong stabbed Longsworth in the left side of his neck with the scissors.

The prosecution was represented by Crown Counsel Trenia Young.
