The Execution Of “Ghetto Fab”
posted (November 5, 2010)
Eric Savery Lewis, known as Ghetto Fab - he rose to prominence as a Belize City street figure over a decade ago. But 38 year old Savery-Lewis - who had skirted death many times - met his end today when he was executed on in Belize City - not far from his family home on west Canal and his one-time stomping ground of Rocky Road.

He came under fire at around 2:05 this afternoon as he was driving his Mazda Car at the corner of Mex Avenue and George Street. Another vehicle came up from the opposite direction and one of the occupants got out of the car and opened fire on Savery.

Savery was shot to the temple but was alive and a friend in the passenger seat took over the wheel to make an escape. He picked up his sister at their nearby West Canal family home and kept on - charging against the flow of traffic on west canal. A police on cycle patrol called for backup and the car careened across the bridge at King Street trying to get unto East Canal, but plowed shortly after into a parked car after sideswiping an SUV.

Savery was rushed in a police pickup to the KHMH where he died while receiving treatment at 2:37 pm. The bullet riddled white Mazda sedan and its blood stained car seats on the busy East canal area provided gripping testament to the violence of the attack.

An eyewitness to the final stop told seven news off camera his attention was drawn to the scene by a loud bang.

Jim McFadzean
"What alerted you?"

Voice of eyewitness
"The bang! The car crashed into another vehicle when I looked around I saw a white car coming the opposite direction of West canal then he cross over onto the other side of the canal on the right side, he lose control and ran on the side walk lose control again and ran into the rear of another car."

Jim McFadzean
"So the car was actually coming opposite traffic on West canal heading north?"

Voice of eyewitness
"Right and then he collided into another car."

Jim McFadzean
"How many passengers where there in the white car?"

Voice of eyewitness "Three passengers; two guys and one female."

Jim McFadzean
"So what in your opinion and from what you saw, what did you gather happened?"

Voice of eyewitness
"Well I saw three person and the person who was driving said that somebody got shot. Afterwards the police came by to assist and they took the guy and the female into the police vehicle and sped off."

Geovanni Brakett, Plus T.V.
"By this time there were no other vehicle chasing that vehicle?"

Voice of eyewitness
"No sight of another vehicle."

Geovanni Brakett
"By the time they crashed the second time did you had any chance to see a glimpse of any vehicle behind them?"

Voice of eyewitness
"No other vehicle was behind them, none."

Geovanni Brakett
"So they probably have been shot before the second crash?"

Voice of eyewitness
"Right, right before."

One person has been detained. It is of significant note that Savery's SUV was shot up this morning right in front of his home in the same West Canal area. The family tells us that a police and BDF foot patrol just feet away refused to respond to the shooting. When he was killed Savery was returning from fixing the tyre that had been shot this morning. Savery was the father of 5.

It is of note that Savery's brother, Ernest who works at the Kolby Central prison - was believed to have been the target of an armed coordinated attack three weeks ago on October 18. Savery was shot but a female prison warden who was getting a ride with him was killed.
