And from that to two murders over the weekend…

A teenager year old who was just coming off the celebration of his 17th., birthday was killed this weekend in Belize city.

And while you may be able to relate to the tragedy of a teenaged death - coming just a day after he turned 17 - that's probably about all you can relate to in the life of Kenroy Mejia.

The young man lived in the city - removed from his home in Dangriga - through an alley in a nest carved out of an abandoned building.

It was already a marginal existence but still someone felt the need to take it away on Sunday morning. Here's more:…

This is the perch where 17 year old Kenroy Mejia had a makeshift living accommodation - an abandoned, half finished cement landing.

The surroundings are littered with trash; the cal the area the jungle.

Grafitti covers the walls though his bed frame has been thrown downstairs along with the door that secured his room, while his bedding was pitched into the crotch of an adjoining tree he slept against this wall.

And neighbors believe he was killed as he slept; The bloodstains still mark the area that was his wall.

This resident who used the teenager as his run man told us how he found the youth

"When I look over the man I thought that his ears was burst, but I look further I see a hole on the side of his head. They kill him in his sleep because he was still in his sleeping position with his hands under his head curled up and his sheet over him. I would say that somebody in a black jacket who was with the young man after 1 in the night. The neighbor told me that the person has his cap in his face. It's somebody that hangs with him killed him. When Mejia goes in his house he lock the door very good so it's somebody that he knows him; the neighbor says that someone was up there with the man and they waited until he fell asleep to do what they have to do and went. The dread upstairs told me after that he heard 2 gunshots about after 1 the night."

Whether friend or foe he was executed with a certain finality - just one day after his 17th. birthday. The neighborhood is full of stories about what may have prompted it, some suggest it was retaliation. But for his friend, there are no easy answers:

"They say that the man caught up in something but I don't really know about that part."

"Yeah, as I know the man I know he is straight. I don't know who would want to kill this man."

Police have made no arrests - Mejia was recently detained as a suspect for the murder of CARLOS SUCUQUI, 20yrs Guatemalan that was fatally shot on East Canal on Thursday 7th October, 2010. His home was down the street form where cu-cookie was killed
