Shenelle’s Shotgun Killer Charged With Manslaughter
posted (November 22, 2010)
Last week we told you about the tragic killing of 17 year old Shenelle Reyes. The fourth former was at home on Tuesday night when a young man from the neighborhood shot her with a sawed off shotgun. He supposedly pointed the gun at Shenelle; she reportedly slapped it away and then the gun - supposedly - misfired and shot her in the chest.

That young man 18 year old Ibrahim Smith went to magistrate's court today where he was charged with manslaughter. Smith was also charged with having a prohibited firearm and handling stolen goods.

He was remanded because of the firearm offence until December 21st. But tonight Shennelle's family is not happy - they wanted him remanded for murder. This evening, her mother Lisa Simpson told Monica Bodden why she feels it was a case of murder charge - she asked to appear off camera:….

Mother of Shenelle Reyes
"I did not like the charge that he get because first of all the witness told me that the young man who shot my daughter tell him not to say anything. What is the reason why he tell the little boy not to say anything? And second of all he went his phone too and the witness also said that my daughter told him 2 times not to play with the gun around her. So what is the reason he still pulled the trigger on her? That is the reason why I came back on the news."

Monica Bodden
"So you think that he needs to be charged with murder?"

Mother of Shenelle Reyes
"I think he deserve it because my daughter told him not to play with the gun around her. So from the time she told him that he should have walk away."

If past history is any indication, there is very little chance of the charge being upgraded to murder.
