Culture At Mary’s
posted (November 26, 2010)
St Mary's Primary School students traded in their uniforms today for cultural outfits. The school's annual cultural day was held today - where students showcased food, dances, clothing and music to depict the wide range of cultures in Belize. 7News stopped by this morning to check out the display.

Kayla Arnold, Teacher - St. mary's Primary
"Basically we are having our cultural day and it's something we do every year to basically raise the awareness of the different culture between the kids and so it can promote social growth and the cultures we have displayed are Creole culture, we have the East Indian, the Mayas, the Mestizo and we have the Nigerian culture because it's one that we've seen on the rise in our country so it was important for us to highlight it as well. Every day we wear the same St. Mary's uniform but we take this day now to see where our roots because without knowing our past we cannot know we are in the present and how to move forward in the future so with today we are showcasing the different foods, language, clothing, folklores and just different aspects of culture for the children to not only enjoy but to also take home and hopefully even cherish."
