Today the Government of Belize signed a thirty million dollar loan with the World Bank, for Reconstruction and Development to be carried out through a Municipal Development Project. The Municipal Development Project which will be implemented by a unit within SIF is aimed at providing capacity building within municipalities in strategic areas including: revenue generation, finance, human resource and traffic management. In addition, it will also focus on small-scale infrastructure projects - namely streets and drains. The towns to benefit from project are: Corozal, Orange Walk, San Ignacio/Santa Elena, Benque Viejo, Dangriga, Punta Gorda and the City of Belmopan. Signing on behalf of the government was the Prime Minister of Belize, Honourable Dean Barrow. Mrs. Yvonne Tsikata, Country Director for the Caribbean in the World Bank, signed on behalf of the Bank.
