“Jankro” In Road Caused SUV To Flip
posted (December 13, 2010)
Turkey Vultures - or as they are known locally - "jankro" are in the habit of eating roadkill right off the highway - causing many a nervous moment for drivers as they come up to the large birds - which are often slow to gather themselves and fly away. The rule is, "keep driving" - but even so a bird strike to a vehicle travelling at 60 miles and hour can be difficult for any driver to endure.

And so it was for 27 year old Jenifer Bernadin - whose vehicle flipped on the northern highway several times yesterday morning.

Bernadin was driving this gold Ford Expedition towards Belize City and lost control of the SUV between miles 20 and 21 after hitting a vulture. The vehicle flipped a number of times - but luckily Bernadin - a domestic from Ladyville - received only minor injuries to her hand.

She was taken away in an ambulance.
