Citrus Mutual to Canton’s Defence
posted (December 13, 2010)
Dr. Henry Canton - he's the embattled CEO of Citrus Products of Belize Limited and ever since the Citrus Growers Association took control of the company's board of directors in April - they've been trying to jostle him out of the boss's chair.

Now, reports have emerged that the Citrus Growers have called an extra-ordinary meeting of Citrus Products to remove Canton and replace him with Henry Anderson, who is the current CEO of CGA. The CGA argues that Canton has led the company to successive losses.

Reports say that meeting is set for this Friday - and while the procedure for that is under dispute - in this contentious industry that is the least of the current disputes.

Today, Belize citrus Mutual, the growers group which is challenging the dominance of the CGA sent out a release in robust defence of Dr. Canton.

It argues that since coming on board in 2002 - Canton turned around the company. And even as the last two years have shown losses - Citrus Mutual points to the growers - whose production was down to 3.8 million boxes last year - a 12 year low.

The release argues that this critical juncture is, quote, "not a time to change from successful… management to experiment with an untested newcomer who will be manipulated by former industry old timers."

That is surely not the last we've heard of this round of the dispute which should come to a head before Christmas.
