A Party For The Kids
posted (December 17, 2010)
Over two hundred and fifty children from the Port Loyola area in Belize City received a free meal along with a gift today - all courtesy of the Port Loyola Health Center in collaboration with Restore Belize.

It's the second year that the healthcare center has organized a luncheon for children of the community but according to Jersha Lennon, Nurse in Charge - this year is even bigger than last.

"Port Loyola Health Center along with the members of RESTORE BELIZE in collaborating with them and the community and our friends and families and so forth has gathered together to give back a luncheon or to give back to the community by giving the children a lunch and giving them a gift. First of all we were catering mostly to under privilege children in the community, those that were ill and have special needs, but with working with RESTORE BELIZE we ended up a little bit with more of the community and more children from the school and so forth, so that's what we are doing this afternoon."

"We play some games and have some fun with them, we are giving them a meal and now Santa is here and we are about to give them a gift for the season."

"What's on the menu today?"

Jersha Lennon, Nurse in charge, Port Loyola Health Center
"The menu is the same; rice and beans, turkey, ham and they are getting their apples and cupcakes to go with that so that's on the menu."

"How many gifts you guys cater for today's event?"

Jersha Lennon, Nurse in charge, Port Loyola Health Center
"Well we had originally plan for 100 but now we ended up with 250 and as you can see by the overwhelming crowd that is how this is going to go, we have them by name, by ages and hopefully we are able to get this off before the evening is done."

The Luncheon was held at the Excelsior basketball court and wrapped up at 3 o'clock this afternoon.
