Murder In the West

And while city residents wearily chalk up one more street killing - San Ignacio residents are having a harder time coming to terms with a shocking broad daylight killing that happened in their town on Saturday. A well-known, well-respected member of the community was killed.

47 year old Herman Morris - the Financial Controller for the Citrus Growers Association of Belize was found dead in his vehicle in front of his home. Monica Bodden was in Cayo today and she has more in this report.

The body of 47 year old Herman Morris was found inside the back seat of his red Saturn SUV that was parked outside his gate -in front of his home - on Blue Hole Street in the Cahal Pech Area.

Morris who was the Financial Controller for the Citrus Growers Association of Belize Limited - had been stabbed to the chest, chin and head.

His body was discovered on Saturday morning. From what we understand, a flat screen TV along with a computer was inside his vehicle - none of which were stolen.

According to police, he was last seen alive about 7:30 on Friday night.

"Sometime around Saturday morning the police were called to Blue Hole Street - that is in the area of Cahal Pech - San Ignacio Town. On arrival the body of a male person who have so far been identified to be one Herman Morris - a 47 year old financial controller of the citrus industry in the Stann Creek District. He was found inside the vehicle with multiple stab wounds, he was transported to the San Ignacio public hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival."

Police had detained one suspect over the weekend but we understand he was released.

"So far we have interviewed several persons. We have detained one person who we have interviewed and released and we are exploring other possibilities with a view to try and see how best we can bring this murder to a closure. At this time we have no motive but we are looking at various possibilities, as investigators we try not to rule anything out, if we get a lead, we explore it and eliminate so we are in that process right now."

And while they is plenty of speculation going around about what may have been the cause of this homicide - police say they need the help of those especially in the neighborhood - who may have seen or heard anything last Friday night.

"I would like to call upon the people in the San Ignacio area in particular those who live within the area where Mr. Morrison lives that if they have any information they believe will be useful to the police in solving this crime then we would be more than willing to get those information regardless of how simple it may seem, it could be the piece of the puzzle that we are looking for. If they do not feel comfortable coming to the police in person, they can call the 0-800-922 tip number and pass the information through there and it will be pass on to us. All we need basically id information and thereafter we will act and see what we can get from it."
