Citrus Products: Transition Tremors But No Earthquakes
posted (December 20, 2010)
Over the weekend a swarm of wild rumors were spreading about activities taking place in the Pomona valley, particularly at the citrus Products of Belize Limited.

Rumors abounded that the road was blocked, the company gates were chained, workers were told to stay off the compound and even that Canton had barricaded himself in the company refusing to leave while police demanded his removal.

But late this evening we spoke to CPBL's Chief Financial Controller, Kent Herrera and he told us that there was no breaking down of gates, no blockades and no demand from the police for Canton.

But there were police with riot gear on the ready near the compound.

Herrera told us that while he isn't a hundred percent sure why the police with riot gears were outside CPBL'S compound he believed it was just a precautionary measure because of talks of an impending protest that never took place. Herrera said the police were only there for about two to three hours and things were normal at the company and work was never stopped. He also told us he didn't believe Canton was even in office and things will continue to operate normally. Canton's secretary also told us he was not there.

All this comes as a result of the call for Canton to leave CPBL after a decision was made on Friday and shareholders voted for Canton's termination as CEO of CPBL. Canton, however, insists that he's the still the CEO because he was never legally removed.
