From A Mexican Jail To a Belizean One
posted (December 20, 2010)
From 2008 we have been following the story of the 3 Belizean casino security guards - along with their boss who were locked up in a Mexican jail - after crossing the Santa Elena border into Mexico in armd pursuit of some rogue patrons.

The incident happened on July 13th in 2008 - when a Mexican man was escorted out of the Las Vegas Casino in the Corozal Free Zone because of being disorderly. The man returned back to the casino in a small car with a firearm. He used the gun to open fire close to one of the security guards who was standing at a corner of the building. That was when the 3 security guards along with their boss sped off towards the Mexican border.

The 4 men were charged with attempted murder and possession of an illegal weapon.

In December of 2009 - after serving one year and four months in jail Abner David Gomez along with the boss George Hardy Jr was released.

The other two security guards - Curlin Thompson and Martin Miller - was faced with a 10 year sentence. Thompson and Miller chose not to appeal and had asked Mexican authorities to serve their prison sentences at home.

Well it is now 2 years later and both men are back on Belizean soil - but not freed as yet. They were received on Friday by Corozal police and were transferred to the Hattieville prison. According to family members they will have to serve another 3 weeks at the prison before they can be released. For most of their family it is a bitter sweet occasion. Bitter -since they want they loved ones at home to spend the Christmas holidays - something they haven't experienced in 2 years. We will keep following the story and keep you posted.
