“Fawda” Speaks From the Public Relations Pulpit
posted (December 23, 2010)
Phillip Fawda Henry - he's one of the most colorful characters on Belize City's political landscape. He is a glib, outspoken supporter of the UDP and a fervent campaigner for Mayor Zenaida Moya. But he's no political robot, Henry has a mind of his own, and whenever he's given a chance he talks that mind - "mashing corn" left, right and center. That' s what he did earlier this month at the Caribbean Shores Convention when he came out in support of Carlos Perdomo and against City Councilor Roger Espejo - here's that memorable interview:…

Philip "Fawda" Henry
"People have been suffering for a long time though the Belize City council, the drains and the streets are not getting done. Like I say you have to be on the inside to know. My good friend Roger works there, he is a councilor there and the work at city council is not getting done, Jules, let's be real, the only person working there is 'Fawda', myself getting the streets and things done for the people. Roger is trying to go to another step, but the reason why 'Fawda' is here supporting Mr. Perdomo it is because - let us go back to the controversy at city council with these auditor's report, Roger I am still your friend but you were the one who sign for 'Fawda' to get terminated, your signature was there. So I am here representing Caribbean Shores where I was born and grew up. And as a senior citizen Jules I have to support Mr. Perdomo. Come on, Roger you have to go back but I am still going to be your friend, but may the Lord be with you. Mr. Perdomo is going to prevail, he is going to win."

And while he's always entertaining, Henry is also an employee of the City Council - and the council took major issue with that interview and its disparaging - but not untrue - assessment of the council's performance. And that's why he was ordered to appear before a Disciplinary Action Committee on Tuesday.

Henry today told us that was a kangaroo court.

Phillip "Fawda" Henry
"I had to appear before the board of a discipline committee because of the last interview with Mr. Jules. Now, Jules, this is the convention they are talking about that I went to support Mr. Perdomo. Jules, let's go back to chapter 4 of the Belize Constitution freedom of speech as a Belizean citizen. I went to the convention as a citizen of this country and I went on a Sunday not even a work time. But still Ms. Rudon - they were out to get me. They were like piranhas, so I sit before Ms. Rudon who is chairing this meeting. Jules, I sit there and Mr. Tillett came in to the room. He interrupted the meeting when the meeting was going smooth and when Mr. Tillett came in he says 'Fawda have everyone straying off of the subject, stick the pin that what you say to Jules, you answer questions like you are a member for the council, like you are a councilor.' Now I look across to Mr. Tillett and I say come on Mr. Tillett, I was there as a citizen of this country and I read chapter 4 of the law to him and he continue tell me that we don't want to hear about that. They call this kangaroo court. Now I say in your interview when you came to me and say Fawda, the most controversial United Democratic Party personnel - you know you always run your little jokes - and you ask me if I am here supporting Mr. Perdomo and why and I explain that I was born in Caribbean Shores and I support the senior citizen because I think he is the right client for this area. Your interview was a clean interview; it was an interview from a citizen of this country who have good interest in this country. Jules, they went and dig up off the internet what I said to you. Jules your interview with me was superb and the world is listening. This "nigga" here is a good one; I am not going to back down. City council can terminate me under Mr. Tillett because the Mayor will not do that, she will never do something like that. So Zenaida, I am asking you - you know "Fawda" don't care, they want to terminate me, let them terminate me. The signature must be there who chose the termination and that's the person I am going to come hard on - May God be with you."

Jules Vasquez
"I get the impression you know a lot of the dirty business of the council?"

Phillip "Fawda" Henry
"Jules, I will give you a sweet thing - we will cut the black with the white and we will mix it up together and see how it will taste. It will not taste nice at all Jules. Merry Christmas to the Belize City Council and a Happy New Year to all of you but come next year, may the Lord have mercy, Jules. "

Financial Controller Patrick Tillett said he has no final say in whether or not Henry stays or goes - but said he did vote for his termination at the meeting….
