posted (December 29, 2010)
Last week we told you about Thirty four year old Lionel Tillett, an auto mechanic who was caught with 86 pounds of weed stowed in a hidden compartment under his vehicle. He pleaded guilty - and with that all his relatives who were in the vehicle - including his mother - were set free.

Today he was sentenced to 3 years and fined ten thousand dollars today by Chief Magistrate, Margaret McKenzie. She ordered Tillett to pay the fine forthwith, or in default, serve another 3 years. Therefore, if Tillett does not pay the fine he will serve a total of 6 years.

The forfeiture ordered for Tillett's Wagoneer in which the cannabis was found, will be heard in the Magistrate's Court on January 4th, 2011.

Tillett was busted around 8:30p.m on December 17th. He was driving the Wagoneer on the Northern Highway, coming from Corozal Town and heading for Belize City, when he was stopped at a police checkpoint at the junction of the Burrell Boom Road and the Northern Highway. It was the strong aroma of cannabis which prompted the police to take the Wagoneer to Queen Street Police Station and search it thoroughly. The search resulted in the discovery of a metal contraption underneath the Wagoneer. Inside it were 32 parcels which amounted to 86.64 pounds.
