Education Symposium In Belize
posted (January 4, 2011)
The second annual Belize International Symposium on Education started today and it brought together educators from across the country and the world. Ministry of Education, University of Belize and other International Universities gathered to discuss early childhood education in Belize. We met with two of the representatives of the international universities who told us more:

Dr. Pamela Cook, University of Windsor
"Because this is an international symposium we were represented by not only Belize but Canada and the US, some of the states that were involve here was Kansas, Michigan, New York, California and Indiana, so we had a wide variety of people representing at the symposium and those are basically educators and students that came together and be able to learn about education young children, learning new strategies within the pre-school and learning on to take those strategies to their own home environment as well as learn from the Belizeans, we are very excited to learn that Belize is learning how to promote early childhood education and that's what we are all about."

Andrea Polanco
"So today that discussion will now lend itself to what in the future?"

Dr. Pamela Cook, University of Windsor
"Yes it's lending itself basically to the educational welfare of young children, basically we are looking at children birth through 8 and 9 and those are primarily the early childhood years and that the thrust that we are trying to promote at this time."

Dr. McConnell-Farmer, Washburn University
"I am hoping that my students come away with better sense of the possibilities of how you can teach children and the diversity that we enjoy here in Belize and I am hoping that they come away with a better sense of having make contact with all children of all nations."

Along with Dr. McConnell-Farmer are 12 students from Washburn University worked with and made donations to different preschools, orphanages and organizations in Belize. The team is scheduled to return next year and will hold the symposium in January 2012.
