A new project is being launched tonight at the Image Factory. It is called Youth Voices.

The idea is to empower young people by encouraging a stronger sense of identity through spoken word and poetry.

Consultant to the project and International Artist, George Rithm Martinez told us about the magic of the spoken word.

George Rithm Martinez
"Youth Voices is really based on an idea that everybody voice matters, that everybody has talent and that young people need places and spaces to do positive things with their talent and their voices and so we believe that poetry, we believe that hip hop, we believe that story telling, that social media creation, we believe that documenting those stories is what it's all about and so we are launching this two year initiative tonight. It's really going to be an explosion of words, we have young people performing tonight that we met when we start doing this pre-launch tour last month when we were on tour here, so we really forward to a wonderful night and a positive experience that leaves a lasting memory."

Monica Bodden
"What's the overall objective? What do you guys hope to accomplish in thus two years?"

George Rithm Martinez
"There is the cliché answers saying that we want to do some really good things and we want to affect the community and that's what we want to do as well. But I think fundamentality we have the opportunity to saves lives, there is so many young people who are just looking for role models, looking for mentors, looking to be a part of something, a network of positive people and that's what we have here from local artist to local business to local media outlets saying we love Belize and we love our young people and let's put their talent to good use. We are going to have an explosion of words, we are going to have a poetry slam, we are going to have some performances, I am going to perform a little bit as well and we are going to be able to sign up for a workshop tomorrow, so we don't only want to have fun we also want to give tools and do some positive workshops. So if people can find us online, come tonight and sign up and just get involve."

The show started at 7 o'clock tonight at the Image factory and entrance is free of cost.
