Couple Gets Home From Bank, For Free!!

In our broadcast last night, we brought you the moving story of how the employees of one of Belize's corporate giants had built a home for a young couple.

The Portillos, William and Aracelli who were living in cramped conditions with their two year old daughter, had a leased lot located in Belama Phase 4, but, did not have the money to build a home. That's where Scotia Bank and its employees stepped in; the Portillos received the keys to a spanking new bungalow they now call home yesterday. Last night we brought you the Bank's executives take but Due to technical difficulties, we were unable to bring you last night the Portillos reaction - and we have that now.:

"Did you actually apply for the house and why did you apply for the house?"

William Portillo: Recipient Scotia Bank
"Well i applied for the house in about last January, and I applied for the house because the place that we were staying before wasn't really good enough for rising our child and so we decided to apply to see if really have a house of our own."

Jim McFadzean
"How is the house? You've been in there for the last two weeks describe for us when they choose you, selected you for this home, how did you guys feel about that."

William Portillo: Recipient Scotia Bank
"Well first of all we give thanks to God, thanks to Scotia Bank and Hand in Hand because they selected us and we feel very happy and the last two weeks that we have been there we have been like happy because our child have space for her to run and everything is good."

"And you how do you feel about the new home?"

Aracelli Portillo: Recipient Scotia Bank
"Well I feel happy and thanks to God too and the Hand in Hand the Scotia Bank for giving us this opportunity to have a house to live in."

"How much more space for your daughter now?"

Aracelli Portillo: Recipient Scotia Bank
"Oh, yes a lot of space because she can play around everywhere and she don't have any problem because before we use to live in a small space and she didn't even have any space to play but now I feel happy because she has the space for playing."

Scotia Bank says it expects to deliver as many as four to five more similar homes in partnership with Hand in Hand Ministries.
