Child Badly Bitten By Vicious Dog
posted (February 2, 2011)

A 3 year old girl is in the KHMH tonight recovering after she was mauled by her neighbor's pitbull this evening in Belize City.

Monica Bodden has been following the late breaking story.. Monica Bodden Reporting
3 year old Carla Cardinez was viciously attacked late this evening by this mixed breed pitbull - which was tied under her neighbor's house.

The little girl was outside playing on this makeshift walkway -when the dog grabbed her feet.

It took a while before they managed to get the dog to release little Carla - and when they did, she was already bitten all over her body.

We caught up with her mother at the Emergency ward, who told us what happened.

Sara Padia - Mother
"The baby played outside and the dog lived behind the house, when they were going into the house the dog grabbed the baby's feet. Three people tried to take the baby from the dog but the dog was too strong, I lost my head and could not do anything for her. I said to throw water on the dog's face and he would leave, but the owner she got nervous also."

Monica Bodden
"So you could not get the dog off the baby?"

Sara Padia - Mother
"I pulled the baby and the owner pulled the dog, and the owner hit the dog on the head."

Even though the mother, the owner of the dog and another neighbor tried beating the animal off the little girl, it refused to let go.

Sara Padia - Mother
"The dog bit her head, her face, on her shoulder on her legs."

Monica Bodden
"So the dog bit the baby all over her body?"

Sara Padia - Mother
"Yes, the bit her and when we pulled him off, the dog bit another side of her. I don't know maybe he wanted to eat her, I don't know."

Padia said they finally manger to unclench the dog's jaw and immediately rush little Carla to the KHMH emergency ward, where she was admitted.

Monica Bodden
"So right now what's the baby's condition inside the hospital?"

Sara Padia - Mother
"The doctor doesn't want to give us to take the baby home, maybe until two or three days."

Carla Cardinez will be hospitalized for the next few days.
