In May of 2009, there was a brazen broad daylight armed robbery at the Western Union Office on Regent Street in downtown Belize City.
Two police officers, a security guard, and a bystander were injured during the unsuccessful robbery attempt.
That security guard Glenford Williams died from his injuries about a month later. He was shot when the gunmen ran in, and then they shot him again as they ran out.
It was a particularly vicious and lawless attack - and two of the accused were minors - but today, the trio accused of the killing were freed of the charges when they were withdrawn today in the #6 Magistrate's court due to insufficient evidence.
They are Brandon Taylor, Lincoln Hemsley and Shamir Medina. The charges were withdrawn by the prosecution on instructions received from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
