Crushing Gas Prices At the Pump
posted (February 7, 2011)
Gas prices went up again last night, and this time the biggest increase was on diesel - which is now at nine dollars and ninety six cents per gallon. That's almost ten dollars, up from nine dollars and sixty three cents for a gallon of the cheapest type of fuel!

Premium budged up from 10 dollars and fifity cents to ten dollars and fifty two cents per gallon while regular remains at 10 dollars and twenty two cents a gallon.

And just as local gas prices are soaring, the biggest importer of Belizean oil, which is Costa Rica is looking to strengthen ties with this country.

Costa Rica's Foreign Minister Rene' Castro was in Belize on Friday looking for a portal into the Caribbean. Foreign Minister Wilfred Elrington discussed his country's significance….

Hon. Wilfred Elrington, Foreign Minister - Belize
"I don't think many Belizeans know it, but we sell almost all the oil we produce to Costa Rica where it is refined, so that Costa Rica is currently one of our larger trading partners."

Rene Castro, Foreign Minister - Costa Rica
"We also ask for Belize help to pre-launch the Costa Rican efforts and relationship with the Caribbean. Taking advantage of the unique position that Belize has in playing in the two arenas - the Caribbean and in the Central America."

Both sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding establishing the mechanism for bilateral consultations between the two countries.

Foreign Minister Elrington will travel to Costa Rica later this year to sign a Framework Cooperation Agreement..
