The Shoman Five Sentenced

Turning now to court news….The five men who were convicted of conspiring in December of 2008 to murder popular Belize city businessman, Jose Shoman all received stiff sentences today for their roles in the bizarre plot.

Justice Adolph Lucas sentenced each of the men to 14 years for the first count, conspiracy to commit murder and 10 years for the second count which is conspiracy to commit robbery.

They are 45 year old Honduran national Miguel Mayorga, 19 year old Guatemalan national Jose Cordova, 19 year old Guatemalan national Eswin Rosales, 25 year old Cesar Aldana, and 20 year old Guatemalan national Carlos Juarez.

Mayorga, the man who is said to have hatched the conspiracy, was also found guilty of 2 counts of firearm offences and 2 counts of ammunition offences.

He was sentenced to 2 years for each count with the stipulation that the sentences are to run concurrently. Police were tipped off by two of Shoman's employees who overheard the men discussing the plot and arrested the men before they could carry out their plan….
