Leader Of The Opposition Says Speech Was Boring
posted (March 11, 2011)
Those statistical tables appended to the budget speech are for example instructive when doing interviews with the Leader Of The Opposition about the budget after the presentation.

We didn't have it, but as a member of the House he did - but Briceno seemed to have little interest in the figures, he said he was just plain bored:….

John Briceno, Leader of the Opposition
"One is trying hard to keep awake. It has been probably one of the most uninspiring budget presentation from this government probably in a very long time. But on a serious note, the Prime Minister in 2008 ask the Belizean people to imagine the possibilities, here we are 3 years later and whilst he is talking about we are free to fly - obviously this bird's wings are broken because everywhere you go they will tell that Belize is not better off under these past 3 years and that it is worst off. He admitted to inflation, he has admitted that the consumer index prices are going up. He is trying to rehash some of the same old projects that he has been talking from the roads in the north, the solid waste management project and another list of projects that he had rehashed so actually there is nothing really new that the Belizean people can be all excited about. there was nothing on his 21 pledges. He was elected based on 21 pledges that he made to the Belizean people and here we are now 3 years later going on to last two lapse of his administration and with no plan as to how is going to keep his commitment to the Belizean people. How he is going to live up to those 21 pledges that he made to the Belizean people."

Jules Vasquez
"Are you impressed with the 2.5% growth which the Prime Minister spoke about?"

John Briceno, Leader of the Opposition
"Are you impressed? You go and visit the Belizean people all across this country as I have been doing. I am the only person that has been visiting the Belizean people all across this country and wherever you go everybody will tell you that they cannot get a job."

Briceno - and the other members of the opposition - will be able to give their formal response in 13 days when the Budget is debated on Thursday March 24th.

We'll have a little more from the House later as the Prime Minister takes on the somewhat prickly issue of how much government has paid his ex-wife, Lois Young in Legal fees.
