Belizean In Chi-Town In Major Trouble
posted (March 11, 2011)
A group of Belizean young men living in the United States got in major trouble with the law and now 23 year old Gian "Brains" Thompson, will serve 20 years in prison after pleading guilty.

He is one of four Belizean men who entered into plea agreements last year with the FBI, after their DNA was discovered during the investigation of a kidnapping victim.

The four Belizeans along with four others, were arrested in connection with the 2006 kidnapping of a known drug dealer from Gary, Indiana according to a criminal complaint. The complaint says that eight men, armed with guns, confronted the victim outside his home and forced him inside, where they held him for 11 hours. They then tied him up with duct tape and an electrical cord, and beat him up as they demanded money and marijuana. The victim was then transported across state lines from Indiana to Chicago, during which he was able to escape from his captors. The four Belizean defendants Gian "Brains" Thompson, Michael "Tyrell Keller" Bennett, Jermaine "Dreads" Alexander Gentle and Dennis "Desha" Richards, entered pleas to interstate kidnapping in exchange for lesser sentences.

Thompson is an illegal immigrant who had just finished serving time in an Illinois prison - and is now facing deportation to Belize. The remaining three Belizeans, are in custody pending upcoming court dates or sentencing hearings. They face a maximum sentence of life in prison and $250,000 each in fines.
